Strings of Life Photo credit Collection Design, Photography and Styling by Flavia Carbonetti/ Model: Sasha Ribera
For the “For the “Strings of Life” menswear collection, Flavia Carbonetti explores a subject that has always been part of her life: Italian immigration in Luxembourg and Belgium in the second Post War. Combining the historical facts of the time and the contemporary world she grew up in, the result is an image of what represents for her the Second Generation of Immigrants which is still attached to its origins through the family (seen as “strings of life”) but has a predominant feeling of non-belonging.
In order to create a contemporary mood around the collection, Flavia Carbonetti got inspired by the amazing works of Hong Sungchul which using various media and modern technology, prompts interaction and performance from his viewers, communicating the deep desire for human contact within society and reviving his string concept – a visual representation of what ties humans together from the earliest stage of life – the umbilical chord.
